TEAM RACING

What is Team Racing?

Each team has 6 members; 3 helms and 3 crews. A race consists of two teams pitting there skills against one another around a pre-defined course (usually an S-shape). The result of the race is determined by the combined finishing positions of each boat within the team. 1st = 1 pt, 2nd = 2 pts… 6th = 6 pts. Whichever team has the lowest score wins the race. 10 is the magic number – ten points or less wins you the race. 11 points or above and you hang your head in shame!

Training and Events

We train on Saturdays ultimately aiming to qualify and perform well at the BUSA University Team Race Nationals event at the end of the season. We also go to numerous events at various universities, mostly in the north, such as the Leeds Howler, Durham/Newcastle Angel of the North, Hallam Hangover, Manchester & Liverpool's Lash, and more. We compete against a selection of other universities in two-day events. Racing is available to those of different levels of experience; if you are a competent casual sailor wanting to learn more, or if you have previous race experience before coming to university and want to improve in order to travel to events in the A-team, everyone is welcome to try out!
