Sustainability
We are pleased to announce that Lancaster University Sailing Club will be participating in the University Sustainability Challenge in the 2018/2019 academic year. This fantastic scheme is run by The Green Blue which aims at encouraging university sailing clubs to take action to make their sailing more environmentally sustainable.
This is the first year LUSC are embarking on the challenge. We have joined the competition as we believe environmental sustainability and ecological conservation are very important areas which need addressing to make our planet a better place.
Throughout the year we will be sharing how we as a club, and as individuals, are limiting our environmental impacts at our home club as well as at other venues. Our progress will be posted on our website and social media platforms, which will include tips for you to lead a more sustainable life when out on the water.
The Green Blue
The Green Blue is the environmental awareness programme set up by the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine in September 2005. They encourage individuals and clubs to address environmental sustainability at coastal and inland waters where water sport activities take place.
The Challenge
The sustainability challenge runs from September through to February each year. During this time participating University Sailing Clubs are tasked to undertake as many sustainable actions as possible while encouraging others within their club, in their hosts club as well as their social following to do the same. This shows the sailing community as well as the general public that it is easy to reduce your environmental impact, and very rewarding. Over 20 Universities are taking part in the challenge and we are happy to count LUSC as one of them.
